Meet the Chef

Chef Michael King is an accomplished culinarian with deep passion for fresh, local ingredients to produce masterful and flavorful dishes. Chef King serves as the executive chef at Arlo Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York. Helming the kitchen and curating the menu for the hotel’s signature restaurant, Sungold. His aim is to provide dishes that are vivid and refined, yet approachable, offering something for everyone. His love for his community carries into his work, partnering and sourcing ingredients from local markets and farms in the Hudson Valley. 

As the son of a chef, King had an early start in the kitchen cooking alongside his father and mother at home. His education earned him a writing degree from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. His knack for creative thinking along with his roots in cooking set him on a culinary path working in various kitchens in Cambridge and Seattle before arriving in New York City.

In New York City, King served as the sous chef at Michelin-recommended Vai in the Upper East Side and the executive chef at the iconic Royalton Hotel before becoming the executive chef at Irvington and Taco Electrico at the W Hotel in Union Square. A gastronomic polymath, King’s culinary prowess has seen him contributing to menus that cross borders and span a range of cuisines, including Japanese, Mediterranean, Italian, American and Mexican.
